Fall Memories Diary Entry

Fall is such a special time and I’m so glad we got to make many sweet memories as a family. I thought I could share the highlight reel in a diary entry style post.
Working backwards from Halloween, I’ll start by sharing our awesome costume and trick-or-treat pictures. Let me preface by explaining that our area splits trick-or-treat nights up by borough and we were initially supposed to go the night BEFORE Halloween with friends. Unfortunately we got rained out for that night which meant that Curtis would not be able to join us the next night for actual Halloween trick-or-treating because he committed to a pickleball tournament weeks beforehand thinking he could join us the 30th and not miss out. So I took the girls out myself and we met up with a bunch of their friends from school and had a blast!
Hannah is dressed up as a dead bride, Rose is a vampire and I am the Pillsbury Doughboy! I originally got a chefs hat for Curtis to wear with me but alas that did not work out this time. People kept thinking I was a dead chef, but that was fine too!
The Sunday before Halloween week we did our first corn maze adventure together as a family. We had so much fun wandering the maze and just enjoying the farm festivities in the crisp October air. After playing games and beating the maze, we got fresh hot cocoa made with local cow’s milk and ended the day with a scenic hayride.
Fall traditions like roasting s’mores and carving pumpkins are a must! The first time I met Curtis’ girls a few years ago when we were just dating we all carved pumpkins together as an ice breaker activity. I remember at the time trying to impress the girls with my pumpkin-carving “skills” and failing miserably by botching the design (haha.) We always laugh about that now and look back on pumpkin carving as a fun core memory together. This year, in honor of baby boy coming in March, Curtis carved baby feet into our third pumpkin to represent future baby Schube’s presence in my tummy! It’s so surreal that next year he will be with us for all of these adventures.
Two weekends before Halloween we went to a local church to do a trunk-or-treat night. We have also participated in this tradition since Curtis and I were dating and I was just getting to know the girls. I remember helping them get their costumes and makeup ready for the event a few years ago and it was the same drill this time! Since this event was a few weeks before Halloween, the girls had not yet picked out their official costumes so they improvised with makeshift costumes they found around their closet. Hannah was dressed as a spy and Rose was dressed as a hip hop diva.
Throughout October, I love to capture everyday moments that really represent the best parts of the season. I love going on fall walks and peeping at the leaves as they change on our mountain, baking fall treats with the girls and getting dressed and accessorized for the season with layers and hats.
At the beginning of the month, the girls and I went to a pumpkin patch on one of their days off from school while Curtis was working. It was still quite warm out at the time but we loved kicking off the season by picking out our pumpkins from the local farm so we could decorate our front steps outside.
There you have it! This is my diary-entry style recap of some of the best fall memories we made this year so far. I personally count the first few weeks of November as fall at least until it starts to get too cold out…..then it’s time for all the winter and holiday vibes! I hope you have been having a terrific and festive fall season!
